History & Beliefs

By God’s mercy and providence, our church has been at this location since 1843. We seek to be a Christ-centered congregation by loving God and showing His grace to those around us. We believe that faith in Jesus Christ for the redemption of our sins is the only way to receive salvation and eternal life with God (John 3:16; John 14:6; Romans 6:23). We also believe that the truths of Scripture speak clearly into every season of life, offering wisdom, comfort, and direction for all who desire to study the Bible and grow in their understanding of God’s Word (2 Timothy 3:15–17).

At ELBC, you can expect services and Bible studies grounded in clear Bible teachings, with expository preaching and applicable systematic theology that help us walk faithfully in our daily lives (Psalm 119:105; Proverbs 3:5–6; 2 Peter 1:3–4, 20–21). Through worship, fellowship, and Bible study, our desire is to help you know Christ more deeply. We enjoy singing both modern and ancient hymns and aim to be an active presence in our community—showing God’s grace to families and individuals for His glory.

Let us walk together in faith as we learn, grow, and continue to study God’s Word.

Pastor/Elder: Scott Burke

Home 5

Scott Burke serves on staff at East Lawrence Baptist Church, where he previously served in various roles, including lead pastor. He graduated from Piedmont Baptist College in 2008 with a B.A. in Bible and was ordained to the gospel ministry in 2011. Scott has also spent over 25 years working as a software engineer, which has shaped his appreciation for clarity, structure, and faithfulness in both work and ministry.

Scott and his wife Ann have been married for over 30 years and are blessed with three daughters—Erin, Elizabeth, and Sarah. Erin is married to Abdul, and together they have twin daughters, Ara and Adi. Scott loves Jesus, loves studying and preaching God’s Word, and desires to help people grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. One of his favorite verses is Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” In his free time, he enjoys good barbecue, coffee, music, Star Wars, and cheering for the Boston Celtics.
